Holeman and Finch’s Burger

Not my first and definitely not going to be the last trip here. Went with a few friends this time (one of whom is Atlanta based photographer, Trent Chau) to introduce them to a great burger. I was also introduce to something new, which is now my new favorite at this awesome gastro-pub; bacon caramel popcorn! Who knew?! (rhetorical, because obviously the people at H&F did). So good. Thanks Trent for lending me the 35mm 1.4L USM. Unfortunately.. I am now hooked on the lens. May have to add it to my equipment list…

Heirloom Market BBQ | Atlanta, GA USA

Expediting

Brunswick Stew

Ribs and Mac & Cheese

Korean sweet potatoes with black sesame seeds

Spicy Korean pulled pork sandwich

When I’m home in Georgia, there are times when I lack a good place for Malaysian cuisine. Fortunately when it comes to BBQ, there is really no such shortage; e.g. Fox Bro BBQ, Community Q, Fat Matt’s (among many others). Great for us eaters as we have so many options. This place is different from your traditional (insert BBQ region here) type BBQ since they combine influences of Texas, Tennessee, and South Korean flavors. It’s so good.

Very difficult. The parking lot probably has enough for only 10-13 cars at best. No alternative parking for at least 3-4 blocks. Come early or budget at least 20 minutes to hunt down a spot.

Octane | Atlanta, GA USA

Expertly made/poured coffee

The Dark Stuff

Been coming here for years upon years while schooling across the street. This place has it all. A staff well skilled in their trade, the cool college hangout, and a good selection of food / drinks. Most importantly, its consistent. Was chatting with the server about coffee and I noticed that they had a new array of liquor on their top shelf. Told him I am a fan of the Old Rip Van Winkle and that’s when he recommended that I try Colonel E.H. Taylor. I really liked it. I’m just worried it will be just as hard to find as Old Rip Van Winkle…

The Optimist | Atlanta, GA USA

When you first walk in, you’re greeted by the Oyster Bar; first come first serve with a varied menu than what you can get in the main dining area.

Inside of The Optimist, main dinning area.

Shot of the bar area

Hot out of the oven bread with sprinkles of sea salt on top

Peel & eat ga white shrimp, “come back” sauce & lemon

Duck fat poached swordfish, pickled sweet peppers, crispy pancetta

Maine sea scallops, oxtail marmalade, brown butter-chicken jus

Pan seared red snapper

Grilled rack of lamb, field peas, preserved lemon, lamb jus

One of the newest restaurants in Atlanta that serves sustainable seafood. They seem to change parts of their menu; when I tried looking at the menu from The Optimist’s website, they no longer had the grilled rack of lamb nor the version of the red snapper. But I hope they never change the Maine sea scallops served with an oxtail marmalade because that dish is AMAZING! Go get that if nothing else. mmm….so good.

Also their website is pretty awesome. The main page has audio of the waves cascading against the shore. Looping infinitely. I think I’ll just leave that on while I work from now on…
