Ang Ku Kueh (turtle cake); steamed glutinous rice flour cake with mung bean paste
Kopi Bing (Iced Coffee)
Kaya w/ Toast
My uncle picked us up from Kuala Lumpur airport (also known as KLIA) and immediately took us to a local Kopi House in Banting – located northwest of KLIA. I recalled consuming all these goodies the last time I came (4+ years ago) so, having these things again was when it truly felt like I had arrived to Malaysia. The next few posts will be Malaysia specific and I have to say, looking at all these photos is already making me want to go back..

Spicy Tuna Tartare with Cilantro, Sesame Oil and Golden Caviar
Squid Ink Noodles garnished with scallions and gold leaf
So delicious!! This is actually my second go around to this awesome restaurant; this time with a good friend from my University days. We both chose a dish to “try” but I just had to have the squid ink noodles again. Just as good as I remember; I will definitely be back to have some of their other offerings.

Bacon-Caramel Popcorn
Holeman and Finch’s Burger
Not my first and definitely not going to be the last trip here. Went with a few friends this time (one of whom is Atlanta based photographer, Trent Chau) to introduce them to a great burger. I was also introduce to something new, which is now my new favorite at this awesome gastro-pub; bacon caramel popcorn! Who knew?! (rhetorical, because obviously the people at H&F did). So good. Thanks Trent for lending me the 35mm 1.4L USM. Unfortunately.. I am now hooked on the lens. May have to add it to my equipment list…

Taiwanese Sausage
Salt and Pepper Chicken Nuggets
A great place for drinks and snacks. I will most likely be making another trip back to try out the other street foods. e.g. the fried wings or their fried fish / squid balls. I don’t particularly like any of the baked goods I tried, so far. I just find it a lot sweeter than the traditional buns I’m used to eating. A cool place to hang out nonetheless.

Inside Menu Red Medicine
Early Season Legumes
Banh Mi
Introduced to me by a good friend. A really awesome place to come and eat! I love that it’s open late (2am) as in my case, I just flew into LA and wanted something good to eat. The food there is ALMOST too pretty to eat. Each dish is a work of art, the way they meticulously place each garnish…. truly amazing.
